Electrolysis is STILL the only method of hair removal deemed to be permanent by both the FDA & the AMA. It is a process (more than a single visit), but you are investing your time and money in a process that leaves you with a final result (think of buying a home as opposed to throwing your money away each month to rent one). It’s a “no brainer”.

Laser hair removal services will promise you the world and tell you what you want to hear. They may try to sell you treatment “packages” so that you are stuck with it even if you are not satisfied after the 1st or 2nd visit. LASERS ARE NOT PERMANENT! At best, lasers will slightly reduce the quantity of hair you have in a given area and that is only if you are light-skinned with dark hair (and that is only if it is the right type of laser light – there are different kinds of lasers and some will do absolutely nothing).

Most of the hair will return after a short time and many will be white in color. They are not painless or non-invasive as advertised and CAN do some real damage to your skin.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Laser hair removal has become one of the fastest-growing nonsurgical cosmetic procedures in recent years — second only to Botox — with more than 1.3 million performed in 2005. But some health advocates say the industry has grown so fast that regulations have not kept pace and consumers should be cautious.

Touted as a way to eliminate the need for shaving or waxing to remove unwanted hair, the procedure involves passing low-level laser energy over the skin where it is absorbed in the pigment of active hair follicles, disabling them.

In South Florida and across the country, numerous consumer complaints have been filed, and injuries have been reported in rare cases. The Florida Department of Health has received 226 complaints involving laser hair removal since 1996, said Thometta Cozart, a spokeswoman for the agency.

State officials are reviewing a complaint by Selen Adak, 24, of Highland Beach, that she has permanent scarring on her leg as a result of burns suffered during treatment at American Laser Centers in Boca Raton.

In the complaint and a separate lawsuit, Adak said the treatments were a gift from her parents upon graduation from Florida Atlantic University, and included six prepaid laser treatments for her legs, underarms and bikini line.

On Adak’s final treatment, the laser applied to her left leg caused 300 first- and second-degree burns, which left her with scars over the entire leg, according to Boca Raton plastic surgeon Steven Schuster, who treated her for the burns.

Part 1, I will post the 2 other parts to this article in the next 2 days. Check back, bookmark now.

The main goal of Hair Removal Chat is to provide Hair Removal information from people who actually what hair removal or have tested certain products. I haven’t put the forum into full effect yet, so that everyone could post and reply, but I have been getting a lot of emails into Hair Removal Chat.

Someone asked about No Scream Cream. I searched Google for a while until I found a good discussion about No Scream Cream at WaxWaxWax.com, it might be a little outdated but it might help some people.

—

I saw this stuff mentioned/advertised on this site a few days ago. Now that I’ve decided I’d like to order some, I can’t find it on here anymore!

Has anyone tried it? Does it really work? Is it worth the money (I think it was like $20 after s&h) or should I just save myself the money and trouble of ordering it and forget it?

If it is good, then how can I order it? I got my first wax recently and loved the results so much that I plan to continue regularly, but it hurt like hell! So any magic potion I can get my hands on would be appreciated.

Thanks!

—

Hi,

The No Scream Cream does work and is worth the cost. The first time I got waxed I did not apply it long enough before I got waxed. (30-45 min before) The second time I used it properly and it really did help.

Kevin

—

Thanks to you both for the info. Like I said, I loved the results of the wax, but the pain factor already has me anxious about my next appointment. I will definitely order some.

—

Try ebay for Hair Removal products

—

Does anyone know where you can get it in Canada? I have been trying to order it from the states for awhile and no luck as no one will ship to Canada.

I haven’t come across this particular brand in Canada. I know West Coast Beauty supply and Monarch carry some topical numbing agents. But you can get Emla cream over the counter at your local drugstore.

—

Although I do not live in Canada I am familiar with Emla creme. It’s a numbing creme with Lidocaine as the active ingredient. I believe there are a couple of different percentages you can get… It will certainly do the trick if you’re looking for something topical.

—

Wow - you can get Emla cream over the counter in the States……..
In the UK Emla cream, a powerful aneasthetic, can only be prescribed and then administered under the direction of a Doctor, GP or Physician. Laser Hair Removal Clinics with an RMO, Physician or Doctor on site can and do prescibe this for some people. There have been cases of “careless” use that has resulted in death. Large areas of skin that need treating are smothered in the stuff and wrapped in cling film for an hour or so. It deadens the skin completely for up to 4 hours. There was a case in Florida a couple of years ago (and there have been others) where a lady was told to self apply in preparation for her laser session. She did as she was told but didn’t live to find out whether her hard earned cash would have resulted in permanent hair removal. The Emla cream seeped in through the skin into her bloodstream, lowered her blood pressure and resulted in cardiac failure.

—

In canada, it is a low amount of lidocaine, and is asked for in the pharmacy. In small amounts, and on small areas it is safe. For example, someone coming in for a brazillian wax would only need to apply it 5 minutes before their appointment. I’ve used it before..on my self…and it doesn’t completely numb. I personally don’t recommend it to my clients because I have found it makes the skin very heat sensitive. I do know people that have used it before piercings.

Is facial laser hair removal unpleasent?

The treatment involves a series of impulses leading to a feeling of prickling and slight burn. One can compare the feeling of the treatment with that which One feels if one takes a series of blows with a rubber band. The majority of the patients will tolerate it without the need for anaesthesia. The patients who want it can benefit from a cream- based topical anaesthesia. In the few minutes following the treatment, the skin of the treated area turns slightly pink, and you might feel a little sunburned for a couple of days.

I’ve had a few brazillians, out of simple curiosity. Yes they do hurt. I don’t believe the result is worth the pain and the expense. My hubby thought the first one looked bizarre and there was the added negative that my nether regions were so painful afterwards that I couldn’t handle him being anywhere near them until the hair started to grow back anyway. So it was a waste of time really.

Other ladies have them regularly. Some just hate pubic hair and do it for that reason. Others are pressured into it by their partners. It troubles me to see 15 or 16 year old girls wanting brazillians because their “boyfriends” demand them. If anyone demanded such a personal choice from me, they would be either dumped or I would demand exactly the same from them. Quid pro quo, Q.E.D, yes?

Men have found women attractive for 45,000 years with or without hair and I don’t think the hair issue is going to cause a dramatic decline in the birth population.

At the end of the day, if you want to do it, then do it. If you feel pressured by your partner, then don’t do it - there is something seriously wrong with a partner that wants/demands you do undertake something so painful for their own personal gratification. Strikes warning bells with me.

Bikini Hair Removal has now gone to an extreme! The popularity of the Brazilian Wax is growing.

A Brazilian wax refers to hair removal around the anus, perineum and vagina. After underwear is removed a beautician asks the client to lie down and raise the legs. Talc may be sprinkled all over the bottom, anus and vagina areas. This will help with removal of wax and hair. Hot wax is then spread over all these areas and then yanked off with cotton strips.

This can be a quick intense pain. The pain of course can be quite acute and it may continue for some time afterwards. Sometimes if you have extra sensitive skin you may see little blood droplets. Many though feel it is worth it for the results. As a certain level of pain has to be endured with a Brazilian wax it makes sense to always follow up a session with a hair inhibitor. The hair will take longer to grow back until finally it stops growing completely and painful hair removal is no longer necessary. As hair inhibitors are made from natural plant extracts they are safe to use on genital areas and other sensitive parts of the body.

Hot Wax Hair Removal: If it’s a good hot wax it will melt just above body temperature so it can be easily spread thinly over the skin, then a strip of cloth or paper is pressed into the wax. As it hardens the wax trap the hair so it is removed by the roots when the strip is ripped off.

Lasers have been used for many years in surgery and recently have found a niche for removal of unwanted hair. The ease of use, adaptability to most skin types, low incidence of complications, patients’ desires to avoid more painful alternatives and high patient satisfaction have made laser hair removal a viable option for both men and women. Dr. Greenberg is pleased to offer the latest technology for the removal of unwanted hair.

LightSheer is a state-of-the-art diode laser specific for laser hair removal. It may be used for most skin types and hair colors. It has a high success rate for both laser hair removal and permanent hair reduction. This device is FDA approved for this purpose.

Dr. Greenberg has years of experience with this technology and has lectured extensively on its use. Our laser hair removal treatment has demonstrated approximately 70%-80% suppression of hair growth lasting 3-12 months after 3-5 treatments, some of which may be permanent (hair growth suppression for greater than one year). Results depend on skin type, hair color and location. A “test” spot is usually done to determine the proper setting for your individual treatment and treatment can begin within 1 week. Minimal downtime is experienced.
